Xiaomi might bring Mi A1 Project Treble support with the Android 8.1

Xiaomi might bring Mi A1 Project Treble support with the Android 8.1 Oreo update.Despite being part of Android One program, Xiaomi’s Mi A1 has been riddled with a number of update issues. It had a pretty difficult start with Android Oreo 8.0 update which was suspended a number of times due to bugs, and the company is yet to bring Android 8.1 Oreo to the smartphone.

Now it seems Xiaomi is planning to roll out Android 8.1 Oreo update to Mi A1 users soon. And surprisingly it may also bring Project Treble support to the Mi A1. An XDA developers senior member who goes by the name infinity_guy wrote on the forum: “Treble is confirmed. I didn’t get many details as to how it’s going to be implemented, but it is sure to come.”

He added that his source, however, couldn’t provide more information because he’s under Non-disclosure Agreement with Xiaomi.

The support for Treble was included in Oreo 8.0 update, but Mi A1 didn’t get the support with the update. So this is great news for Mi A1 users as Project Treble means users will get updates to latest Android updates at a faster rate. Google’s Project Treble represents a major re-architecture for OS framework aimed to help manufacturers push timely Android updates to devices.

By the looks of it, we feel like the said member is either associated with the development as an internal beta tester or could also be a part of the actual development team.

We are not sure when this would happen, only time and the upcoming updates will tell. Users already seem to be pretty excited about the news. What’s your take on it? Do you think Project Treble will make much difference to the Mi A1 software updates? Considering it already receives monthly updates on time.

In related news, the Mi A1 has already received a new update which includes the security patches for the month of March. The new update weighs 440MB in size and, besides the April security patch brings several other changes. The changelog also suggests there are some generic improvements in performances and several bug fixes in the update.
